Think Central is the website that coincides with our reading series, Journey's. Students can access their text book, reader's notebook, and more on this site. (This is especially helpful if they have forgotten any materials at school). You can find your students username and password taped to the inside of their take home folder. In most cases the username is: first initial, last name (NO SPACES - all lowercase) and the password is: gator
Access a set of online questions to review various grammar skills.
Storyline Online is a site in which you can visit and have various stories read to you. Let's be honest, everyone likes being read to! (Some of these books are AR too)!
Assessments:
*Students will take spelling assessments every other Friday, with a pretest being given on Wednesday. If students pass the pretest they do NOT have to take the test on Friday. Students will take reading and phonics assessments at the end of each story; usually on Fridays. We take two weeks to complete a story. The first Friday students will be assessed on the skill we are learning, the second Friday the students will be assessed on Comprehension, Vocabulary, and Phonics skills that coincide with the story. I will remind students of when their assessments are, as well as send a reminder via remind.com. If you haven't signed up for remind, please do so as this helps to keep our line of communication open and up to date.

Spelling Homework
*Students will have spelling homework every two weeks unless otherwise stated. They will receive a spelling sentence paper on Monday (Tuesday if no school on Monday) and this is due Friday. The directions for the spelling sentences are in bold print at the top of the paper. Students must choose five spelling words and use them in sentences. Students will have a pretest on Wednesday, and a final test on Friday. They will be tested on the words they were given at the beginning of the week as well as a dictation sentence. I will correct the pre-tests Wednesday and give them back to the students on Thursday. If the students pass the test on Wednesday, they do not have to take it on Friday. Currently our class goal is for ALL students to receive an 80% or above on their spelling tests. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Reading Homework
*Students will most likely have reading homework Monday - Thursday and will be asked to read a book of choice for at least ten minutes over the weekend. During the week the student's homework will vary depending on what we are doing in class or accomplished in class on any given day. The first week of our story, students are often instructed to read 4 pages of our weekly story and review the comprehension questions that are sent home with them. When they are asked to do this it is to be done with an adult out loud. The reasoning behind this is for students to practice reading accurately and fluently. When they read out loud they are more likely to hear their mistakes than if they read it quietly to themselves. Each story will also have a set of comprehension questions. These questions are to be reviewed according to the pages the students read. They need to discuss these with an adult. They DO NOT need to write their answers down unless otherwise instructed. On the second week of our story, students will be given a comprehension assignment. They will be asked to read a small paragraph and answer five multiple choice questions. This assignment is due on Friday. As always, should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.
